Love Oxfordshire

In celebration of English Tourism Week (22-31 May 2021), Experience Oxfordshire have launched their campaign to highlight fabulous Oxfordshire, and encourage visitors and residents to share all the reasons why they love this wonderful county.

Being Oxfordshire advocates through and through, New Dawn Events wanted to join in the conversation and give you our Oxfordshire favourites and some of the reasons why we think this is a great place to live and visit.

Whether you have visited Oxford or not, you'll be familiar with images of its beautiful sights and scenery. Within the City, popular landmarks such as the Radcliffe Camera, Ashmolean Museum and Bodleian Library offer the perfect photo opportunity and endless history, but none more so than the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, with stunning architecture both inside and out that is quite a sight to behold.

If countryside walks are more your thing, Oxfordshire offers these in abundance, and nature is thriving in many of these areas. Try Farmoor Reservoir or Radley Lakes for water-based scenery, and Boars Hill or The Hurst for rolling hills, forests and Oxford views.

Since the opening of the Westgate Centre in Oxford, the City's shopping scene has enjoyed a huge improvement for designer clothing and fashion brands under one roof. However, the famous High Street extends those outlets further, and also offers an entrance to the fabulous Covered Market for small independent shops and traders.

Outside of the City, Bicester Village is a short train ride away, offering discounted high end designer brands and an excellent day out.

It's hard to know where to start on the activity-front, as you're spoiled for choice here in Oxfordshire. However, some of the more unusual or adventurous choices include the recent addition of High Fly Trapeze in Florence Park, AV Boat Hire offering kayaks, electric boats and paddle boards in Benson and Abingdon, climbing walls at Oxford Brookes and Abingdon Sports and Leisure, and the Wet and Wild Aqua Park in Berinsfield. So much fun to be had!

Food and Drink

Whether it's a typical English country pub or a cocktail bar, Oxfordshire offers an excellent choice in dining out, day or night. Some of our favourites include:

The Fishes, Hinksey - spend Summer days enjoying picnics and entertainment out on the lawn.

The Greyhound, Besselsleigh - great service, excellent food and a proper English pub atmosphere. Lovely garden for the Summer but perfectly cosy by the fire in Winter.

Dirty Bones, Oxford - cool atmosphere, great staff, burgers, fries and cocktails. Fab.

The Crazy Bear, Stadhampton - a quirky pub with amazing bedrooms. You have the choice of going downstairs for Thai or upstairs for English - both utterly gorgeous. The Crazy Bear also runs various exciting events throughout the year.

Raoul's Bar, Jericho - an Oxford institution for fabulous cocktails.

Aston Pottery, Aston - if you are simply looking for a gorgeous Cafe in beautiful surroundings, you can't fault this place. Highly recommend a latte with a large slice of Rocky Road.

There is simply too much to see and do in fabulous Oxfordshire to fit it all in one post, but we hope you'll agree that these options are a great place to start!
